This wedding is special to me because I was able to work with two sweet people and a previous bride who is also my makeup artist for my shoots. A great vibe for this group already. Caitlin and Ryan had their wedding on the beach in San Diego (girl after my own heart) and chose me a few months ago to photograph their family reception here in Arizona at Shenandoah Mill. I really have to gush about my brides and how much they make the experience sweet for me as I do for them. I did their engagement shoot (click here to see at Scottsdale Civic Center) and photographed these Junior High sweethearts on June 13th. Very cool to know each other for that many years.
Details! Details! Caitlin wore a gorgeous beaded lace wedding dress with a scoop neck and empire waist. Matching her dress with a delicate hair veil, her mother’s vintage pearl earrings and bracelet. They were both giddy while they were getting ready upstairs in the loft at the venue. Ryan wore a charcoal colored Alfani suit with a 60’s type paisley tie. Really pulling off the dapper look for this couple. Plus, the rustic venue was decorated with vintage tablecloths, milk glass, floral decor, and chalkboard signs. Not to mention the photobooth the venue provides for a little bit of modern fun.
Caitlin’s favorite moment was watching all their guests having fun dancing and in the photobooth. This also included a smooth move to get her dad on the dance floor- the DJ pulled out the conga line that formed a circle around her dad. Some of those guests sure knew how to dance.
First Dance: “Baby” Devendra Banhart
Father/Daughter: “Learning to Fly” Tom Petty (a song my Dad has sung to me since I was born).
Mother/Son: “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)” James Taylor
Bride’s Wisdom: Don’t stress out too much during the wedding planning process if something doesn’t go right. In the end, no one will remember the things you didn’t have or do- only the fun they had.
